Knuckles' Defender Review

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Its a plane shaped like a bird so sortof, yeah. It's the Defender, Liberty's low level Heavy Fighter, perfect for fighting off low to medium level baddies, especially suited for Hit and Run! Here is why you should try this baby out and see how far you can push it before the hull breach warning lights start flashing.

WHAT?!?
When you're up against a Defender, you see the small ship, the weak hull, the sluggish movement. What you don't see are the SIX FORWARD GUNS blazing away at your shields. Yes folks, this baby has Three class 3 and two class 4 weapon slots, with a class 4 turret that fires forwards.. arrrr!!11 This is serious SERIOUS firepower for a low level ship, especially at a decent price and a damn sight better than the frankly crap Startracker.

The Navy Workhorse
Man this thing has a weak hull, and it doesn't turn very well either, so you need to get in, do the job, and get out again before your opponents can strip your shields away and melt your ship down for scrap. This is what makes the Defender best suited for hit and run attacks. You can fly in, blasting at full pelt and then sweep away, drifting if you need to, avoiding any retaliation. The firepower you can bring to bear in a single attack with this ship is impressive, but you need to get out of trouble quick or you'll be in trouble, thanks to the pretty average maneuvrability.

Summary
If you want a low level ship that has serious punch at a decent price (12000 bucks), get it. If you like hit and run attacks, you'll love it. As for missions, make sure you aren't up against more agile and better armed ships, stick to low level combat and be careful in Bretonia, as your ship is at a disadvantage anywhere outside Liberty Space. A great purchase for low level pirates and adventurers.

Pros
Cons
Great Firepower for the price
Weak hull
Good price for a low level ship
Turn rate is too slow for such a fragile ship
Looks good.
Really only good for Liberty & Bretonia
