How to navigate outside of the trade lane network

Going Off-Lane
Leave the lanes and go looking for the many hidden secrets in Sirius. Learn how to follow the clues left by patrol routes. Skip to the Pointers if you're bored.
Patrol Routes
Selecting Patrol Routes on your F6 map screen reveals a whole bunch o' lines. In Multiplayer, they're all white lines, but in single player you can select friendly, neutral or hostile routes.
Hidden Bases and Jumpholes
There are many hidden bases and jumpholes all over Sirius, most of which are in Debris/Asteroid Fields and Gas Clouds. Makes sense though, doesn't it.. if you want to hide something, hide it where it's hard to see.

Follow the Clues
When you see lots of patrol routes meeting out into the middle of nowhere, there's usually a reason. Always investigate whenever you see suspicious patrol routes leading into a field, nebula, or even empty space.
Easy Navigating
Set a waypoint into the middle of a cloud or field and Go To (F2) it. Any bases or other objects within about 10k of your position will show up on the map as you fly by them, so keep an eye on the navigation display.

Important Points
Follow patrol routes, it's the best way to discover hidden bases and holes.

Always be ready for hostile forces when you venture into a field or gas cloud, it is better to make all your hostile reps neutral before exploring off-lane.

Most fields and clouds have hidden bases and jumpholes inside, but be prepared to spend time searching, as some clouds reduce scanner range.

Some clouds are radioactive, eating your hull without damaging your shields.. so be ready with nanobots and spare cash to repair your equipment.
