Improving Reputation through Missions

Summary Points

Minding their own business
Hostile factions will attack you on sight, while neutral and friendly factions will ignore you completely. Destroying a ship will affect your reputation with the faction it belongs to.

At first, you will be warned not to continue firing on the ship, but if you keep attacking they will go hostile. You must completely destroy a ship to affect your reputation with their faction.

Attacking Transports
Have you noticed that transports carry storage containers? Yes? Well you can blow them up for more cargo, so go ahead, just remember to aim carefully or you might destroy the transport before you've had a chance to break all the containers open.

Remember that storage containers on transports do not affect reputation as much as Storage Depots do.

Attacking Freighters
Freighters also carry cargo, and blowing them up affects reputation in the same way as attacking transports, plus you get some nice loot, too.

Destroying the freighter's escort will also help your rep, but if you are mainly after loot, it might be best to leave them and go hunting for more precious cargo.

This reputation fixing is taking a while!
The more ships you destroy, the more your reputation is affected, so be patient as it might take some time to destroy a whole lot of ships.

I am pretty sure that the bigger the ship, the more the reputation is affected, so destroying freighters and transports affects reputation the most.

Improving Reputation through Missions
The more hostile you are with a faction the less weapons become available to you. Eventually, they will even stop offering you missions until your reputation improves.

Missions affect reputation in a similar way to storage depots, but as a mission takes longer than blowing up a depot, you might consider preparing for a long employment.

Quicker Missions
If you are pressed for time, choose missions that won't take long, such as Assassination, Retrieval/Disposal, Arrest or Destroy Station missions.

Read the description carefully and make sure they don't require you to destroy all enemies (so-called 'Kill Ships' Missions).

Bribes
Finally the bribe. These are usually very expensive and affect your reputation in a big way, so make sure you know the hostile and friendly factions that will be affected by this. It is a decision you must make very carefully, as the results can be very difficult to undo.
