Turret Tips
How to use turrets in Turret View, Rear View and in normal view.. oh, and summary points too.

Introduction to Turrets
Turrets can be used just like main guns and can fire in many different directions when used in Turret View. Not all turrets fire forwards, but those that do can be valuable multi-purpose weapons.

Using Turrets in Turret View and Rear View
In a slow turning ship such as a freighter, Turret View (H key) allows you to attack your target quicker than turning to face them.

Freighters have a lot of turrets, some of which do not fire forward, and this is a problem when performing a head-on attack.

StevenKeel: "A lot of folks don't realize how powerful turrets can be. Head-on, a freighter can be more dangerous than a heavy fighter, because a lot of turrets are more powerful than normal guns in their class."

You can use Rear View to fire at pursuing ships, which makes controlling your ship easier as all you need do is let go of the Rear View button and immediately you are back at the Front View in full control of your ship.

In Turret View, the movement keys work, but you cannot turn using the mouse. In Rear View (V key), you can turn using the mouse, but your field of vision is limited, so you can't track targets as well as in Turret View.

Moving under Turret View
You can only use forward/backward, strafe left/right and afterburner to move your ship in Turret View, as mouse movement moves the View & the Turrets, not the ship. Commit to a direction and then switch views, that way you know where you are headed while you attack your targets.

Summary Points on Turrets
With some Freighters, Turret View lets you aim faster than you can turn, allowing you to hit targets you couldn't turn fast enough to hit before.

Turret View leaves your ship open to attack unless you are moving around fast using strafe and thrusters.

Rear View is good for attacking pursuers, allowing you to turn as well as shoot.

Turrets have longer ranges than standard guns of the same type, usually 700m with a projectile speed of 700m/s.

Turrets can be a useful secondary weapon on Fighters too.
